Transport in Vienna
Vienna Public Transport
Public transport in Vienna is (especially in comparison to most other large cities worldwide) extremely well developed and efficient: You are able to reach virtually every point of town by train, subway, tram or bus within a unified public transport network.
Public Transport Tickets
There is a flat fee for single rides (which though is fairly high), with a bunch of more economic options for longer-term tickets (3 days, 1 week, 1 month to 1 year) available.
The Semesterticket is the best option for students enrolled at a Viennese University (age limit of 27 and other restrictions apply!):
This Ticket is valid for one semester (October to January or March to June) and can be obtained at any larger station of the Vienna public transport authority (Wiener Linien).
You have to bring your student ID, a copy of the enrollment document (Inskriptionsbestätigung) and a passport photo.
Check the Wiener Linien infosite for further details.
Online Route Calculation
On the Vienna transport authority website you can not only retrieve a bunch of information on the transport network and ticket prices as well as download useful material but also check your personal transportation needs online:
