Wine and dine - traditional!

Vienna features an extremely wide variety of pubs and restaurants, from very basic budget eateries to posh and extremely upscale places.
Although its by far not possible to cover the whole segment, we tried to showcase at least a couple of traditional places here:

Figlmueller

Although the Figlmueller right off Stephansplatz definitely is a crowded touristic venue, the traditional Wiener Schnitzel (breaded veal cutlet, perhaps "the" typical Viennese dish) is famous throughout the city and definitely worth a try.

Schweizerhaus

Around since 1766, the Schweizerhaus in the Prater features the best-known beergarden in town. Be sure to taste the famous Stelze (knuckle of pork) which ideally is to be washed down with an excellent Czech-original Budweiser beer.

Plachutta

At the up-market Plachutta restaurant, the menu is centered around traditional Austrian beef platters (for example the famous Tafelspitz), served in an distinguished ambience [btw: There are three more Plachutta restaurants in Vienna to choose from...]

Griechenbeisl

Definitely one of the oldest restaurants in town still in business, the Griechenbeisl opened up (even before America was discovered!) in 1447. Typical Austrian food is served inside in various vaulted rooms as well as the front garden.

Plutzerbraeu

The Plutzerbraeu in the popular Spittelberg-Area is a basement place with a nice garden in a pedestrian street. Enjoy affordable toasted breads, beer snacks and hearty food (ever tried vintage Blunzengroestl if you dare?) and numerous beers.
